Britney Spears
Album Review: Circus

“You say I’m crazy. I got your crazy.” Britney Spears’ first hit, “Womanizer“, from her new album speaks the truth. The question is, will she be able to change that?

Two years after the release of her album “In The Zone,” Britney stated that she wanted to take a break from the music industry to take care of her two sons, Jayden and Sean.

People say the higher you climb, the faster you fall, and Britney was no exception. From screaming at the paparazzi to shaving her head bald and attacking car windows with umbrellas, people started to believe she had lost her mind, and perhaps she had. However, she wants to change people’s perceptions of her, starting with the release of her new album, “Circus“.

Even though the release of her 2007 album, “Blackout“, bombed by only selling 3.1 million copies, Britney decided to keep the same style of music. Only this time it worked.

Opening with her hit single, “Womanizer”, “Circus” stays true to that sound throughout the 12 tracks.

Though just coming out of a major public meltdown that lasted a year, “Circus” could easily become Spears’ best album yet. Many of the tracks are upbeat like “Blackout’s” track listing, yet the lyrics are catchy, and not coming out of the head of the media’s easiest target at the time. There are also several ballads that are reminiscent of her earlier work.

People should also notice the difference between her voice from “In The Zone” to “Circus.” “In The Zone” showcases her as a new person. Coming out of her shell, and trying, and succeeding, to be sexy. “Circus” brings new light to Britney, with just the tone of her voice. There are obvious changes in the way she sings, and that probably spawns off of her newfound maturity.

Out of all the tracks on the album, my favorites are mainly in the beginning. I love the new up-tempo style of Britney, and “Kill The Lights” and “Circus” are obvious signs that Britney has changed.

“Circus” rose to number one on the Itunes charts the day it was released, and Britney Spears has risen back to fame, right under where she used to be.
