Live Review: MTV Unplugged

So first off, I did not listen to the whole 'MTV Unplugged' set with ATL. I don't think I could muster the attention it would take. But two things prompted me to listen to at least one of the songs. During the MTV Unplugged set, Kate Voegelle joins in to help sing All Time Low's song, "Remembering Sunday". One I like this song a lot, probably my favorite ATL song. and Kate Voegelle is an interesting choice for backup vocals on the song because in the original version, Juliette Sims from Automatic Loveletter sings instead. It was nice and refreshing to hear the song acoustic, and to hear Kate Voegelle's voice in the mix. So two thumbs up for this song for sure.

I know the link above says watch the video, but really, honestly, don't waste your time. I like this song, I can actually relate to it, but this is one of those music videos that has nothing to do with the song, and that pisses me off. It seems more like an advertisement to their new album Nothing Personal. Which ain't that good either. It insults half their fans probably, which is possibly the point? Who knows what the hell they were thinking, but watch the video or not, it sucks majorly.

Album Review: Nothing Personal

As the first single off their new album, Nothing Personal, All Time Low’s “Weightless” definitely shows that the band has evolved in talent from their previous albums, So Wrong, It’s Right, and Put Up Or Shut Up, while keeping their same sound and style.

In my opinion though, “Weightless” is not the greatest song on the new album. It’s somewhere around spot #4 or #5. “Damned If I Do Ya (Damned If I Don’t)” is much more catchier, but their second single didn’t take that top placement for me either. Though it is all a matter of what you personally like, “Hello Brooklyn” is easily my favorite song this time around. Great rhymes, catchy hooks, and fast lyrics make this song very marketable and likeable.

This album seems devoid of such lyrics as “Well they can take, take, take the kids from the summer/But they'll never, never, never take the summer from me” in last year’s “The Beach” (So Wrong, It’s Right), and instead moves up to lines such as “Gonna break your little heart/Watch you take the fall/Laughing all the way to the hospital/'Cause there's nothing surgery can do/I'm gonna break your little heart” in “Break Your Little Heart.”

If you liked their last 2 albums, then Nothing Personal will fit right in with your collection, however, if the previous works by All Time Low didn’t do anything for you, it’s pretty much a given that their new album won’t either.

Other notable songs are “Lost In Stereo” and “Sick Little Games.”
